Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 29 May 2026

Northgate Construction is committed to ensuring that its website is accessible to as wide an audience as possible, including people with disabilities, older users, and people accessing the site on a range of devices and connection speeds. This Accessibility Statement explains the steps we have taken to achieve this, the limitations we are aware of, and how you can contact us if you experience any difficulty.

1. Our commitment

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. WCAG is the international standard for web accessibility, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Meeting Level AA means that our content should be perceivable, operable, understandable and robust for the great majority of people, including those using assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice recognition software and switch devices.

Our approach also takes account of the requirements of the Equality Act 2010, which obliges service providers to make reasonable adjustments so that disabled people are not put at a substantial disadvantage.

2. What we have done

  • Semantic HTML. Pages are built with meaningful HTML5 elements (such as headings, lists, landmarks, navigation and form labels) so that the structure is clear to screen-reader users.
  • Heading hierarchy. Each page uses a single H1 and a logical heading order so that users can navigate efficiently.
  • Colour contrast. Body text, headings and interactive elements meet WCAG AA contrast ratios against their backgrounds.
  • Keyboard navigation. All interactive elements — links, buttons, form fields and disclosure controls — can be reached and operated using a standard keyboard. A visible focus indicator is provided.
  • Resizable text. Text can be resized up to 200% in modern browsers without loss of content or functionality.
  • Responsive design. The site adapts to mobile, tablet and desktop screen sizes; reflow at 320 CSS pixels is supported.
  • Form labels and error messages. Form fields are clearly labelled; required fields are indicated; errors are communicated in plain language.
  • Descriptive link text. Link wording describes the destination so that links are meaningful when read out of context (we avoid generic "click here" links).
  • Page titles and meta descriptions. Each page has a unique, descriptive title and meta description.
  • Alt text for images. Meaningful images have descriptive alternative text; purely decorative images use an empty alt attribute so screen readers skip them.
  • No auto-playing media. The site does not auto-play audio or video.

3. Known limitations

Despite our best efforts to make this website accessible, we are aware of the following limitations and are actively working to address them:

  • Some images used to illustrate completed projects are decorative supporting content rather than essential information. Where this is the case, the surrounding text contains the relevant information.
  • External services (notably the Stripe checkout pages used for payment) are operated by third parties whose accessibility we cannot directly control. Stripe publishes its own accessibility commitments at stripe.com/accessibility.
  • PDF and document downloads, where used, may not always meet full accessibility standards. We will provide an alternative format on request.

4. Assistive technologies tested

We test the website using current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox) on desktop and mobile. Spot checks are carried out with the built-in screen readers VoiceOver (macOS / iOS) and TalkBack (Android), as well as keyboard-only navigation. We use automated accessibility scanning during development to identify issues early.

5. Browser and assistive technology compatibility

The website is designed to be compatible with the latest stable versions of major browsers. We do not target end-of-life browsers (such as Internet Explorer 11). If you use an older browser or assistive technology and experience problems, please get in touch and we will do our best to help.

6. Feedback and contact

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of this website. If you encounter a barrier, need information in an alternative format (large print, plain-text email, audio description or another format that suits your needs), or wish to suggest an improvement, please contact us:

We aim to respond to accessibility queries within 5 working days and to provide reasonable alternative formats within 10 working days, depending on the complexity of the request.

7. Enforcement procedure

The Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) is the body that helps individuals enforce their rights under the Equality Act 2010. If you are not satisfied with how we respond to a complaint about accessibility, you can contact EASS at equalityadvisoryservice.com.

Where the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 apply, complaints can additionally be referred to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).

8. Preparation of this statement

This statement was prepared on 29 May 2026 by Northgate Construction. It is based on an internal review of the website carried out using a combination of automated accessibility tools and manual testing with keyboard and screen-reader navigation. The statement will be reviewed at least annually and when significant changes are made to the website.
